No fewer than 171,922 accredited delegates are voting in Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Ondo State to elect a candidate for the November 2024 governorship poll.
The aspirants : Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and 15 others are jostling for the party’s ticket.
Persecondnews reports that they include the Senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim; Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olusola Oke; former President of Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Francis Faduyile; Dr Funmi Waheed-Adekojo and the APC National Vice Chairman (South-West), Isaacs Kekemeke.
Others are Dr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele. Dr Soji Ehinlanwo, Akinfolarin Samuel, Okunjimi Odimayo, Adewale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema, Gen. Ohunyeye Olamide, Morayo Lebi, and Garvey Oladiran Iyanjan
The delegates are drawn from the 203 wards of the 18 local government areas of the state.
A statement by the seven-member committee appointed by party for the primary signed by Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, the Secretary, said none of the aspirants had withdrawn or stepped down for another candidate.
The secretary said the committee was ready to conduct the primary using the direct mode in all the 203 wards across the state.
He appealed to the aspirants to caution their supporters to allow the peaceful conduct of the primary.
Omo-Agege assured of the committee’s resolve to strictly follow the guidelines and constitution of the party and conduct a transparent, fair and credible election.
He said that the committee would collaborate with the security agencies in the state to forestall the breakdown of law and order before, during and after the primary.
Persecondnews also reports that at press time, the Kogi State Governor and Chairman of the Committee, Usman Ododo, has yet to arrive in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
