Users of social media channels – Facebook and Instagram – are experiencing issues logging into their accounts following an outage around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Persecondnews reports that users are automatically logged out with a message that reads, “The password that you’ve entered is incorrect,” while on Instagram, it returned the message, “Something went wrong. There’s an issue, and the page could not be loaded.”.

The warnings about being logged out led to widespread concern among users that their accounts had been hacked, and a variety of concerned phrases trended on Twitter and X. But the error messages appear to be the result of problems with Facebook’s login system, not a hack or cyber attack.

Meta does not run official status pages for its consumer products. And it had yet to post any updates on the outage on its official accounts, such as those on X.

A visit to the website Downdetector showed many users reporting issues with logging into Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

However, both platforms, under Meta, have yet to comment on the matter as of the time of this report.
