President Bola Tinubu has assured the Canadian authorities of Nigerian government full support after fire engulfed a section of the high commission in Abuja.
In a statement on Monday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the President prayed for the repose of the departed souls and wished speedy recovery for the injured.
He said: “The President assures the Canadian authorities of the full support of the Nigerian government in the aid of diplomatic and local staff of the High Commission who were particularly affected by the incident.
“President Tinubu prays for the repose of the departed souls and wishes all injured persons a rapid and full recovery.”
Persecond News reported that three people were feared dead as parts of the Canadian High Commission building caught fire.
According to a witness, the fire was triggered from the generator house where technicians were working on a faulty generating plant.
The three people who died in the fire were all technical crew.
The high commission is located at diplomatic drive in the central business district (CBD) of the federal capital territory (FCT).
It is a walking distance from the federal Ministry of Defence, popularly known as Ship House, and the high commissions of Ghana, UK, and the U.S.
