FG inaugurates CNG conversion centre in Abuja

In fulfilment of its promise, the Federal Government on Friday in Abuja inaugurated a pilot conversion centre for vehicles that will run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

The Minister of Transportation, Sen. Sa’idu Alkali, who performed the launch at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), said the environmental -friendly initiative would reposition the nation’s transport sector.

He also noted that the pilot conversion centre will cushion the effects of subsidy removal on the masses and generate employment opportunities for Nigerians.

“The introduction of a more friendly energy source like the CNG will reduce carbon emissions in the environment.

“The adoption of a more environmentally friendly energy source like the CNG, which the country has in abundance will reposition the transportation sector in urban cities across the country and put Nigeria in tandem with what the world desires at this time.

“Greenhouse gas emissions pose health hazards and dire environmental consequences, and Nigeria can not afford to lag considering that she is a signatory to Green House Emission policy aimed at reducing carbon emission in the environment,” Alkali was quoted as saying in a statement emailed to Persecond News by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Olujimi Oyetomi.

The Minister was represented by the Acting Director, Road Transport and Mass Transit Administration in the Ministry, Akhidenor Cynthia.

Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary in the ministries of Transportation/Marine and Blue Economy, said the time has come for Nigeria to build on and leverage cheap and clean energy..
