Tinubu appoints 6 Deputy and Assistant Comptrollers-General for Customs Service

Following the appointment of Mr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi as the Acting Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, President Bola Tinubu has again appointed three Deputy Comptrollers General (DCGs) and three Assistant Comptrollers Generals (ACGs) for the service.

Abdullahi Maiwada, the spokesman for Customs, said the appointments are in line with Tinubu’s vision of achieving increased revenue generation and also “crushing” smugglers.

He said: “Following the appointment of the Acting Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR on 19 June 2023 and the retirement of some management members in the Service, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic Nigeria, President Bola Ahmad Tinubu GCFR has approved the appointment of the following Deputy Comptroller Generals (DCGs) and Assistant Comptroller Generals (ACGs): DCG FO Okun, DCG MBA Musa, DCG A Hamisu, ACG K Olumoh, ACG AB Mohammed, ACG A Alajogun.

“While thanking the retired members of the management for their meritorious Service, the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, congratulated the newly appointed Officers and charged them to redouble their efforts to ensure the Service achieves greater heights in its mandates of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling and trade facilitation.”

Persecondnews reports that the Customs Service has recorded a steady growth in revenue generation and fight against smuggling.

Maiwada announced that Apapa Area Command in Lagos has recorded an unprecedented revenue generation of over N1 trillion for the year 2022, higher than the N870 billion it collected in 2021.

On anti-smuggling, the Customs’ spokesman said the command also seized 157 containers of contraband compared to 102 containers seized in 2021.
