President Bola Tinubu has convened the Nigeria Police Council to evaluate the permanent appointment of Olatunji Disu as Inspector-General of Police.

In line with the Police Act of 2020, the Council must review the nomination before the President seeks final Senate confirmation.

High-level attendees include Vice President Kashim Shettima, SGF George Akume, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Others are Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, various governors from across the states, and other designated council members.

Persecondnews recalls that President Tinubu had appointed Olatunji Disu as Acting IGP on February 24, following Kayode Egbetokun’s resignation for “pressing family considerations.”

Egbetokun had served as Nigeria’s top cop since June 2023, succeeding Usman Baba.

At the time of his appointment, Disu was the Assistant Inspector-General overseeing the Force CID annex in Alagbon, Lagos.

Disu’s academic background is as diverse as his career, holding a bachelor’s degree in English Education from Lagos State University, alongside master’s degrees in Public Administration, Criminology, and Security and Legal Psychology.

Since joining the force in 1992, he has built a reputation through a series of high-stakes assignments across Nigeria.

Notable highlights of his career include commanding the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), leading the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and serving as Commissioner of Police for both Rivers State and the FCT.

Most recently, he headed the Special Protection Unit as an Assistant Inspector-General.
