Accepting Tinubu’s ministerial offer, Wike has confirmed his exit from PDP — Chieftain

A stalwart and former presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Ugochukwu Williams, has described the acceptance of ministerial appointment by ex-Rivers Gov. Nyesom Wike as a confirmation of his exit from the party.

With President Bola Tinubu beating the 60-day constitutional deadline and transmitting the letter containing ministerial list to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday, reactions have continued to trial the announcement with opposition parties uncomfortable with the inclusion of opposition camp into Tinubu’s government.

The youngest presidential aspirant of the PDP in the last election, 38-year-old Williams said in an exclusive chat with Persecondnews on Thursday that Wike’s appointment was a compensation for his contribution to the success of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last elections.

He said: “The party (PDP) is already seeing him as a non-member of the party. The appointment from Tinubu and his acceptance of the appointment is a confirmation of their exit from the party.”

On the inclusion of former governors on the list, he said: “They are recycling the same people and compensating those who helped him in ‘winning’ the election, I don’t think they have much to offer.

“We need new people who are coming with new ideas and innovations.”

Persecondnews had earlier reported that the President had reserved key positions for the three main opposition parties — the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

However the Labour Party National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh had in June while speaking to our correspondent, said accepting Tinubu’s hand of fellowship will mean ceding the party mandate which is currently being challenged in court.

He said: “No! No member of the Obidient family or by extension, the Labour Party would want to work with the present government led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
