Smarting from defeat at the polls, Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew on the state following an electoral defeat of his sponsored governorship candidate in Saturday’s election by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

A statement on Monday morning by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Mr Muhammad Garba, a former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) said the decision was taken to avoid a breakdown of law and order in the state.

He said Ganduje took the decision to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tense state.

Garba called on people to remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone or group bent on causing trouble or mayhem.

Persecondnews reports that the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been declared the winner of governorship poll.

Yusuf, who polled 1,019,602 votes, was declared the winner of the election by the returning officer in Kano, Ahmad Dokko Ibrahim.

NNPP had been floated by Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former PDP governor and Minister of Defence in the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration 2003-2007
