Maiden flight recorded at new Ogun cargo airport

The first aircraft on Thursday touched down at the newly constructed Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport in Iperu-Ilishan in Ogun State.

Valuejet airline which landed at the airport at 3:30 pm, thus becoming the first commercial flight to land at the cargo airport.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo, were also received at the airport in an aircraft.

The private aircraft landed to the excitement of the people also witnessed by Gov. Dapo Abiodun, former Governors Segun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel, and a former Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Dimeji Bankole among other dignitaries.

The cargo airport is conceptualized by the Dapo Abiodun administration to boost the exportation of agricultural and non-agricultural goods and reinvigorate further social, economic activities, which will subsequently increase revenue generation drive of the state.

Aviation Minister Sen. Hadi Sirika also witnessed the test flight.

The Managing Director of Valuejet Airline, which operated the maiden flight, Mr Kunle Soname, described the opportunity as invaluable.

Persecondnews recalls that former Gov. Gbenga Daniel had located the airport at the present and cleared the site but could not execute the project.
