Three days after a container fell off and crushed eight passengers in Lagos, an accident involving a petrol-laden truck and four tricycles (Keke Marwa) has left two people dead on Tuesday also in the metropolis.

The tragic incident occurred at Ikotun in Alimoso area of Lagos State.

Persecondnews reported that on January 29, a container fell on a commercial bus at Ojuelegba, inwards Fadeyi, Lagos, on Sunday, claiming eight lives.

According to LASTMA, the driver of one of the tricycles and a passenger died on the spot, while four other occupants were rescued alive by officials of the traffic management agency.

The four rescued accident victims included two pregnant women and two children, according to a statement.

Mr Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department in LASTMA, said those rescued were handed over to policemen from Ikotun Police Station who took them to the General Hospital.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the fully loaded container truck (JJJ 125) had a brake failure and crushed the tricycles by a valley around Synagogue Church when going towards Ikotun.

“The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency immediately moved the tanker with those crushed tricycles to Ikotun Police Station.

“Other emergency responders, including the Nigerian Police men from Ikotun Police Station, were at the scene of the accident,” he said.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, has warned truck and tanker owners and their drivers to always ensure that their trucks are in good conditions before putting them on the road.
