Four days after new Ekiti Governor was sworn in, State Assembly Speaker, Funminiyi Afuye, dies

Barely four days after a new governor was inaugurated in Ekiti, the

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Funminiyi Afuye, has passed on.

Afuye died on Wednesday evening at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado- Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest, a government statement obtained by Persecondnews said.

The Afuye, 66, had served as the Commissioner for Information and two- time member of the State Assembly.

He was inaugurated Speaker of the sixth Assembly on June 6, 2019.

The statement by Mr Yinka Oyebode, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor said: “The Government of Ekiti State regrets to announce the death of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Funminiyi Afuye.

“Rt. Hon Afuye died Wednesday evening at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado- Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest.”

Persecondnews had reported that Mr Abiodun Oyebanji took oath of office as the new Governor on Sunday, October 16.

Oyebanji, who was sworn in by the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, took over from Gov. Kayode Fayemi, who was the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum.
