Ariwoola takes oath as 18th Chief Justice of Nigeria

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on Wednesday took oath of office as the 18th Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Persecondnews reports that President Muhammadu Buhari administered the oath at a brief ceremony held at the State House just before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Ariwoola takes over from retired Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad who called the shots from 2019 to 2022.

Among those who witnessed the swearing in are Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), the governors of Oyo and Ondo States, Seyi Makinde and Rotimi Akeredolu and Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Bambari and the National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno.

The roll call of ministers: Babatunde Fashola, SAN, (Works and Housing); Se. Hadi Sirika (Aviation); Olorunnimbe Mamora (Science, Technology and Innovation); Chris Ngige (Labour and Employment); Abubakar Malami (Attorney-General and Justice) and Niyi Adebayo (Industry, Trade and Investment).

Speaking shortly after his swearing-in, Ariwoola urged politicians to allow the judiciary function properly as the nation goes into the 2023 polls.

He also promised reforms at the Supreme Court.

Oyo Gov. Makinde expressed gratitude to President Buhari on behalf of the people and government of the state for appointing Ariwoola.
