The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the July 16 governorship poll in Osun State, Sen. Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday got a reprieve as the court declared him the authentic candidate of the party for the poll.

The Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo gave the ruling in a suit filed by a factional candidate of the PDP, Prince Dotun Babayemi.

Persecondnews recalls that Adeleke a.k.a the dancing senator, had emerged the winner of the governorship primary of the party held on March 9, 2022 at Osogbo Stadium.

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Sen. Lawrence Ewurujakpo, who presided over the party’s National Congress Committee, announced Adeleke winner with 1,887 votes.

However, Babayemi also emerged as the candidate of the faction in the primary held at the WOCDIF Centre also on March 9.

On Wednesday, Justice Nathaniel Emmanuel ruled in favour of Adeleke as the party’s flagbearer for the election.

Ewurujakpo had declared any parallel primary outside the stadium as illegal

“Any other primary held outside this place is invalid and will not be recognised.

“The crown is here, the palace is here and the authority is here. Any exercise not done here cannot be recognized,” he had said.

Babayemi had gone to court for recognition as the authentic candidate.
