In conformity with the nation’s Electoral law, Ogun Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr Taiwo Oludotun, has resigned his job and joined the race for House of Representatives seat in Abeokuta.

Oludotun, who announced his intention at a meeting in Abeokuta of All Progressives Congress ( APC) leaders, was attended chieftains and elders from the three local governments making up the federal constituency — Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode, Odeda.

Persecondnews.com reports that the party leaders included Mr Sunday Akintona, Mr Sonola, and the Abeokuta North Local Government Chairman, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi.

He said the 2022 Electoral Act had provided a level playing field for a free and fair contest without imposition of candidates.

“l’m contesting the election because l’m ready to serve the people and make  meaningful contributions at the Green Chamber (House of Representatives),” the former Commissioner said.

While urging the party to give him support for the realization of the aspiration, he promised a more impactful and better representation at the National Assembly.

Oludotun thanked Gov. Dapo Abiodun for the opportunity given him to serve the state as Commissioner.

He appealed to the party leadership to  give all aspirants the opportunity to go for the primaries and should not pressure aspirants to step down for a preferred aspirant.

According to him, the local government tour has taken off and that the people of Odeda and Obafemi-Owode turned out en masse in support of his candidature.

“I cannot do it alone except with the support of the elders, local government executives, wards chairmen and all the leaders in our party.

“This time around, I am going to contest and I will not step down for anyone. With your ( party leaders, faithful) support, I am assuring you that I will contest the election and I will win by the special Grace of God.”

“I resigned my appointment because I know I can represent our constituency better, also to enable me reach out to party members for their support. Have been to the other two Local Government ( Odeda and Obafemi Owode) for support.

“I will be going out to wards to wards to campaign, I can’t do it without informing the wards chairmen and the leadership of the local government. So I am here to seek for your support and prayer on this journey.”

“I also want you to give me the opportunity to talk to the executives because we don’t know the modalities of this coming elections, maybe indirect or direct, so I am here to seek for permission to be able to dialogue with the executives because this election I am going to win it by the grace of God,” Oludotun said.

Responding, the party leaders — Sonola, Akintona and Sarumi — who took their turns, assured Oludotun of their support saying that the aspirant is not a new comer in the race.

They commended him for his commitment and contributions to the party.
