Again, ubiquitous “unknown gunmen” have invaded Ajali Divisional Police headquarters in Orumba North council area of Anambra State, set fire to the station and killed an officer.
The gunmen, whose motive was unknown, stormed the station shot dead a man right in front of the facility.
After the gunmen left the station engulfed in flame, public spirited people mobilized and tried to rescue officers, who were trapped.
The spokesman for the state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, has yet to comment on the incident.
Persecondnews had reported the assassination of Dr. Chike Akunyili, the widower of late Prof. Dora Akunyili, a former Minister of Information, was shot dead during the week in the state.
Anambra, hitherto peaceful state, has recently witnessed several killings in the build up to the November 6 governorship poll.
Also, the driver of the House of Representatives member representing Nnewi North/ South federal Constituency, Chris Azubogu, was killed on September 30 when gunmen attacked the convoy of Azubuogu at Nnewi in Anambra.
However, the lawmaker, who just defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had a lucky escape as he was not in the vehicle when they launched the attack.
