In Adamawa State, a man, Enoch Adamu, has stabbed his ex-lover over failure to refund N85,000 expenses he allegedly spent on her during courtship.
Adamu, a resident of Sangere in Yola South Local Government Area of the state, had stabbed his ex-lover, Ashini Hosea, with a kitchen knife in the premises of the Criminal Area Court II, Yola, in the presence of her counsel.
He had instituted a suit against Ashini on a charge of deceitful marriage, after he fell in love with her and she accepted his marriage proposal.
He told the court he spent his fortunes, paying a dowry and incurring other expenses totalling N120,000 and only for Ashini to tell him she was no longer interested in the marriage proposal.
It was further gathered that out of the N120,000 supposedly spent on Ashini, it was remaining N85,000 as she had paid back N35,000 before the court process began.
Counsel to Ashini, Barr. Ibrahim Saidu, had written for a reversal of the earlier arrangement for Ashini to pay Adamu all expenses he made on her, an application which succeeded to Enoch’s anger.
Earlier, Barr. Saidu told the Court that he was not aware of the terms of settlement about his client agreeing to refund her ex-lover’s expenses, neither did he know of any earlier admission of liability by his client to the allegations made by Adamu.
He, therefore, urged the court to mention the case afresh, and the court did upon which Ashini changed her earlier plea and denied liability for all the expenses incurred on her.
Immediately after the adjournment of the case to March 2, 2021, Adamu walked up to Ashini who was standing outside the courtroom with her counsel, pulled out a knife and stabbed her in the chest and neck three times.
He tried to flee the court but was apprehended by police and court officials who handed him over to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), while Ashini was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola for medical attention.
Persecondnews gathered that after carrying out the dramatic act, he attempted to escape from the CID officials by jumping down from their two-storey building which left him unconscious.
He was also rushed to FMC Yola.
