Amid a depressed atmosphere, an octogenarian-woman violently bade the world a goodbye as she punged headlong from a four-storey building in Awada area of commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State.

The incident which occurred at 18, Ilodibe St., Awada, near Onitsha attracted a throng including mourners and sympathizers.

Persecondnews gathered that the 85-year-old woman, simply identified as Llione Victoria, was on the unrestricted open balcony without iron barriers and from there she exited the world.

Almost living a life of hermit, the woman, who was suspected to be mentally challenged, had lived with her daughter and a nanny.

“It is still a surprise to us as nobody would have expected a woman of that age to take her own life,’’ a family source said.

Police have confirmed the incident, saying they received a distress call from Awada Police Station that Ilione Victoria allegedly jumped to her death.

The State Command’s spokesman, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said before his men could arrive at the scene the body had been removed by her daughter she stayed with.

“The octogenarian victim reported to be having some mental challenges had her movement restricted and was at home with her caregiver, one Judith Amumuche, 32, at the time of the alleged incident.

“However, before the arrival of the police at the scene, one Ikediaso Benedicta of 3-3 Housing Estate, Onitsha, who is said to be victim’s daughter reportedly took the corpse away to an unknown destination but blood stains were observed at the scene,” he said.

Mohammed said both the caregiver and other witnesses at the scene were already assisting the police in their investigations with a view to unraveling the circumstances leading to the woman’s death.
