Senator Magnus Abe, representing Rivers South East Senatorial District has revealed that politics has taken the better side of an otherwise beautiful relationship that exists between himself and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
He said that such beautiful and blossoming relationships with perceived opponents are truncated usually because of the entrenched positions that people expect them to take.
In what appears to be battle for supremacy, the duo took their rivalry for the soul of Rivers state to the number one seat of power on Friday.
Abe, who was in the delegation of Ogoni leaders from the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers and elected leaders of MOSOP who met, Buhari had barely stepped into the bus at the end of the visit after speaking with State House Correspondents, when Amaechi appeared with Tonye-Cole.
Tonye-Cole, is Amaechi’s preferred governorship aspirant for next year’s election to also come to the Villa.
Abe had told newsmen that it was the turn of Ogonis to produce the next governor and that his disagreement with the Minister was purely political.
The Senator who is contesting to become the governor of the state in 2019, said their crisis was not deliberate adding that they were best of friends before politics divided them.
Meanwhile, Ogoni leaders from the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers and elected leaders of Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), have listed the national recognition for Ken Saro-Wiwa and 11 other Ogoni sons.
They have also demanded an improved security and establishment of a Centre for Environmental Excellence in Ogoni land.
The delegation led by His Royal Majesty King G. N. K Ogininwa, made the demand during an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday at the Presidential Villa.
Saro-Wiwa, a Nigerian writer, television producer, environmental activist, and winner of the the Right Livelihood Award and the Goldman Environmental Prize, was executed on November 10th, 1995, by the military dictatorship of General Sani Abacha, for allegedly masterminding the gruesome murder of Ogoni chiefs at a pro-government meeting.
President Buhari assured that the country’s resources will be utilised for the benefit of all citizens, with a strong focus on infrastructure.
According to him, the challenge of infrastructure in Ogoni-land would have been long resolved with more focus and commitment to improving the lives of the people, instead of the award and re-awarding of contracts without implementation.
“We will not abuse the trust. What belongs to Nigeria stays in Nigeria and will be utilised by Nigerians,” Buhari told the delegation led by His Royal Majesty King G. N. K Ogininwa.
The delegation also included, the academia, women, community and religious leaders.
