President Muhammadu Buhari is the new chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)

His Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, made the disclosure on his Twitter handle, @BashirAhmaad.

He wrote, “President @MBuhari emerges as the new Chairman of the ECOWAS.”

Buhari replaces Faure Gnassingbe of Republic of Togo  as chairman of ECOWAS.

Buhari said that he did not ask for it but his colleagues would not take no for an answer
