Nigerian music superstar Tiwa Savage has opened up about a decision that has sparked curiosity among fans, revealing why she stopped featuring female artistes on her songs.
The award-winning singer made the revelation while discussing her experiences in the Nigerian music industry and her approach to collaborations with other artistes.
According to Tiwa, her decision to stop featuring female artistes was not one she arrived at casually.
The mother of one explained that there were reasons behind her choice, drawing attention to the dynamics that often surround collaborations between female artistes.
Tiwa, who has worked with several leading names in the Nigerian and international music scenes, has remained one of Africa’s most prominent female musicians.
Explaining her position, Tiwa said: “Why I stopped featuring female artistes on my songs…”, before going into the circumstances that informed the decision.
For Tiwa, however, the decision appears to have been influenced by her personal experiences rather than a blanket rejection of female collaborations.
“I think people don’t know i am one female artiste who has featured most female colleagues over the years. From Waje to Ayra to Simi and others, but I observed that people don’t stream them like they would when I have Odumodu or any male artiste. I have tried it a couple of times but it didn’t work, so I stopped doing it.”
Throughout her career, she has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to work with different artistes, making her decision to limit female collaborations a subject of interest among music lovers.
