Opening up about his career decline, Afrobeats star Orezi has admitted that getting comfortable with his early achievements caused him to lose his competitive drive, leading to his gradual fade from the music scene.

Speaking on Hip TV’s Trending monitored by PerSecondNews, the ‘Ogede’ crooner opened up about his decline in the music industry, admitting he lost the hunger that drove his early success.

Orezi explained that instead of maintaining the consistency needed to stay relevant, he grew comfortable, spending more time enjoying his achievements and taking vacations.

“I faded out because I became less ambitious and comfortable with where I am. I was always on vacation, enjoying myself. I became less ambitious and took myself out of the competition in the music industry,” he said.

According to the singer, the competitive nature of the music industry is one of the factors that keeps artistes consistent, adding that his decision to step away from that competition affected his career.

Orezi also pointed to Afrobeats superstar Davido as an example of an artiste who has maintained his hunger despite achieving fame and financial success.

“Competition fuels consistency. Look at Davido for example, he hustles like an underground artist. He has money and fame but he still maintains his hustling spirit,” he said.

Orezi, known for hit songs including ‘Shoki’ and ‘Ogede’, has remained relatively low-key in recent years after enjoying significant visibility during the peak of his career.
