As part of efforts to better protect and support Nigerian children, the Federal Government is rolling out an ambitious expansion of its child welfare, nutrition, and social intervention programs across all 774 local government areas.

President Bola Tinubu announced this on Monday at the 2026 National Children’s Day rally held at Eagle Square, Abuja.

Persecondnews reports that the event was a lively, colorful celebration, featuring schoolchildren from across the FCT showcasing their culture, discipline, and impressive parade drills.

Organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), the programme opened with the presentation of the national flag and inspection of the parade by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Iman Suleiman-Ibrahim.

The President, represented by the Minister said government was expanding the Renewed Hope Social Impact Intervention 774 initiative to improve access to education, healthcare, nutrition support and economic empowerment nationwide.

He said the programme was designed to strengthen family systems and improve outcomes for children, women and vulnerable groups across the country.

“We are expanding support systems that strengthen family welfare, improve access to education and healthcare, support nutrition, encourage women and child development, and create economic opportunities for millions of Nigerians across all the 774 local government areas of the federation,” he said.

He added that the 2026 National Children’s Day theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” reflects the urgent need to build a society where no child is excluded.

“Inclusion therefore must be the moral foundation of our national development. No Nigerian child should ever feel invisible, unheard, excluded or forgotten.” he noted.

The President stressed that every child, regardless of background, location or physical condition, deserves equal access to quality education, healthcare, protection, nutrition, digital opportunities and dignity.

“The future is already here in every classroom, in every playground, in rural communities, in internally displaced persons’ camps, in children living with disabilities, and in every young Nigerian whose voice is waiting to be heard.”

He also disclosed that government is strengthening birth registration systems and scaling up nutrition interventions to improve child survival and welfare outcomes nationwide.

The event is part of a series of activities organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, alongside key stakeholders, leading up to the 2026 National Children’s Day celebration on May 27.
