In commemoration of this year’s Eid-Ul-Adha celebration, the Federal Government has declared Wednesday May 27 and Thursday May 28, 2026 as public holidays.
The declaration was contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, issued on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and obtained by Persecondnews on Monday.
According to the statement, the holidays reflects the Federal Government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of Muslim faithful in Nigeria, who join the global Islamic community in observing the sacred festival.
“Eid-ul-Adha, is a period rooted in sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for others, adding that it remains significant in promoting spiritual reflection, peace, and national unity”. the statement noted.
It further called on Nigerians to appreciate the significance of prayer during this period, noting that supplication remains vital in seeking divine direction for peace, improved security, and sustained national prosperity.
The government also extended its goodwill to Muslim faithful across the country and in the diaspora, wishing them a peaceful, joyous, and fulfilling celebration.
