Jimoh Ibrahim to UN: Tinubu is the Key to Resolving Nigeria’s Deep-Seated Issues

Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the deep-seated grievances fueling national insecurity.

While presenting his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York, Ibrahim delivered a message from the President emphasizing Nigeria’s determination to tackle both internal and international security threats.

The Ambassador also championed Africa’s role in global leadership, reiterating the demand for a permanent African seat on the UN Security Council to better reflect modern geopolitical realities.

Beyond governance, Ibrahim pledged Nigeria’s continued leadership in mobilizing support to combat instability within the Sahel and West African regions, reinforcing the nation’s dedication to continental peace-building.

On the economy, Ibrahim highlighted key reforms by the Tinubu administration, including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification.

He said tighter monetary policies are also being implemented to curb inflation.

He noted that early indicators show progress, with improvements in debt sustainability and easing inflationary pressures.

According to him, investments in infrastructure and the power sector are also being sustained.

Ibrahim reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to multilateral cooperation, particularly in promoting peace in sensitive regions such as the Strait of Hormuz.

He assured the UN of Nigeria’s readiness to support global peace initiatives and diplomatic engagements.

Receiving the letter of credence, Guterres welcomed Ibrahim’s appointment, saying the UN is excited to work with him in advancing shared global goals.

Guterres described Ibrahim’s diplomatic role as timely and important and expressed confidence in strengthening cooperation between Nigeria and the United Nations.
