The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) secretariat was shut down on Monday as workers embarked on an indefinite strike to protest unresolved labour and welfare issues.

The Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC) had issued a directive to workers to withdraw their services, citing the authorities’ failure to address long-standing demands.

The strike, which began at midnight, was prompted by several grievances, including non-payment of promotion arrears, delayed promotions, and the alleged extension of service for retired directors and permanent secretaries.

JUAC President Rifkatu Iortyer stated: “The union leadership urges members to maintain the status quo until further directives, punctuating the message with solidarity slogans such as ‘Aluta Continua! Victoria Acerta!’ and ‘Enough is enough!'”

The union also expressed dissatisfaction with the 2024 promotion examinations, describing the exercise as largely unsuccessful.

Iortyer emphasized that the strike would continue until their demands are met, saying, “We will not be silenced by continued inaction”.

Persecondnews reports that security personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain peace, while the FCTA administration has yet to respond to the development.

The strike is expected to disrupt activities across the territory.
