Florence Olarinoye has stamped Nigeria’s dominance in weightlifting, striking triple gold in the 58kg A category at the 4th African Youth Games in Angola.
Persecondnews reports that the talented weightlifter dominated the competition, outpacing Chanel Vivier of South Africa and Etori Bakie of Ethiopia to claim the top spot.
Olarinoye’s impressive performance underscores Nigeria’s growing strength in continental weightlifting, adding significant momentum to Team Nigeria’s campaign at the Games.
Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the Director General of the National Sports Commission, in a statement on Saturday, lauded the athlete’s achievement, highlighting Nigeria’s strategic focus on developing youth talents.
He said: “This remarkable feat reinforces Nigeria’s reputation as a weightlifting powerhouse, with young athletes like Olarinoye leading the charge.
“The African Youth Games continue to serve as a vital platform for discovering and nurturing young talents across the continent.”
