Actress Mercy Aigbe Expresses Disappointment Over Daughter’s ‘Low-Key’ Wedding Choice

For an actress as recognizable as Mercy Aigbe, a constant feature at glamorous social gatherings, her daughter’s wedding naturally evokes scenes of flowing aso-ebi fabrics, celebrity-packed halls, camera flashes, and a reception that would keep Lagos buzzing for weeks.

However, that lavish dream may be heading in a surprisingly modest direction.

Aigbe previously maintained a vibrant run on the film scene, particularly with Thin Line, the feature she produced last year.

That film gained impressive attention at cinemas and generated strong conversations among viewers and critics.

Despite that momentum, the actress has not released a new movie this year.

Whether she is quietly planning her next major film move or simply taking a breather after pouring heavy resources into her last project is unclear but for now, there’s no new title slated for release.

Now, just when many might assume her current focus would be a grand family celebration befitting Nollywood royalty, the actress found herself receiving unexpected news directly from her daughter.

“So I just got off the phone, and the last thing Michelle said is ‘Mummy please, I don’t want a big wedding,’” she revealed.

Unprepared for the possibility of an intimate event instead of the fanfare she likely pictured, Aigbe appealed to her online community for backup.

“Please, as online mummies and as my fans, please help me reply her,” she wrote, tagging her daughter with a teasing remark: “@michelleio__ Dey play.”

Her post sparked instant reactions, especially from celebrity friends who joined in the gentle banter.

Nkechi Blessing exclaimed, “Nibo? Ko possible.”

Etinosa Idemudia chimed in, “Come off it, dear. I have organised Okuku and Atilogu dancers already.”

Influencer Papaya Ex added humorously, “When Oversabi Aunty is active. I trust Toyin Abraham.”

Toyin Abraham agreed with the playful pushback, writing, “She’s playing, don’t mind her,” and later returning to say, “She’s just whining us, especially me.”

Comedian Jigan weighed in, “Dey play o, put a boosting gloves on x3,” while Cute Abiola amused followers with, “As how now?”

However, one voice called for calm. Akin Boss commented, “Respect her decision, jor.”
