The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, a public holiday, giving Nigerians a work-free day to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid.
Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, extended felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the celebration, as he announced it in a statement obtained by PersecondNews on his X page, signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry on Friday.
“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others.
“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them,” it stated.
The Minister also urged Nigerians to use the period to pray for peace and national cohesion, stressing that unity remains a shared responsibility.
He advised citizens to celebrate with restraint and mutual respect, while wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid ul Mawlid.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country and ensuring that peace is maintained at all times.
The Eid-ul-Mawlid Holiday is celebrated yearly to mark the remembrance of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
