The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has welcomed a Federal High Court judgment ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to approve and use its modified digital two-finger logo.
The judgment, delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik in Abuja, resolved the dispute with INEC over the official logo to be used for its electoral activities, the NDC said in a statement emailed to PerSecondNews on Thursday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.
The court ordered INEC to approve the modified logo, including its symbol and colours, for use by the NDC as its official logo for all purposes as a political party.
The order covers all elections conducted by INEC in Nigeria and recognises the digitally designed two-finger victory sign with a blue background and “NDC” written in red.
The court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from stopping or interfering with the NDC’s use of the digitally designed two-finger victory sign.
The NDC noted that its First National Executive Committee meeting on March 25, 2026, approved the modified logo before it was forwarded to INEC.
According to the party, INEC initially uploaded the new logo but later removed it and reinstated the old association logo with which the NDC was originally registered.
The party acknowledged that it gave INEC sufficient time to correct the matter administratively before seeking legal redress.
Following the judgment, the NDC directed all its candidates and members to use only the approved logo on campaign materials and other publicity items.
The directive covers banners, posters and other campaign paraphernalia, including materials already being produced for electoral activities.
The party noted that some candidates and members may have already produced materials bearing the old logo and expressed regret over the inconvenience this may cause.
The NDC commended the judiciary for what it described as timely intervention and said it would intensify public sensitisation on the party’s official logo.
The party also assured its candidates and supporters that the matter had been resolved, urging them to remain united as it moves forward with its political activities.
PerSecondNews recalls the dispute over the NDC’s logo followed an earlier legal challenge to the party’s registration, after the Peace Movement Party objected to the logo used by the NDC.
In June 2026, the Federal High Court in Lokoja set aside an earlier judgment directing INEC to register the NDC and ordered a fresh hearing after finding that the Peace Movement Party should have been heard in the case.
