Sen. Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has secured the APC governorship ticket for Ogun State after a landslide victory. Adeola polled 304,055 votes to defeat his rival, Abayomi Hunye, who scored zero votes.

The official results were announced on Thursday at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta by Mr. Wale Ohu, Chairman of the Ogun APC Governorship Primary Election Committee.

The announcement followed the collation of results submitted by returning officers across all 20 local government areas.

According to the committee, out of 343,292 registered voters, 305,287 were accredited for the primary election.

Ohu said: “There were two contestants. Sen. Solomon Adeola scored 304,055 votes while Mr Abayomi Hunye polled zero.”

If elected in 2027, Adeola pledged to build on the achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun and maintain unity within the APC.

He commended Governor Abiodun for ensuring a peaceful and seamless primary election, which he described as unprecedented.

“I never imagined the exercise would be this peaceful. I thought it was usual primaries where people struggle and fight. God on our side,” Adeola said.

According to him, Ogun is witnessing first peaceful transition arrangement in 15 years toward 2027 succession.

“By the grace of God, on May 29, 2027, I will be sitting side by side with you for a smooth transition of government,” he said, assuring Ogun residents that he would sustain development and advance state progress.

Adeola also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for support and mentorship throughout his political career.

He described the President as a father figure, leader, and role model, noting that their relationship represented 24 years of political growth.

Reacting to the victory, Governor Abiodun stated that Adeola’s emergence validated the deep confidence reposed in him by party members across the state.

The governor hailed the peaceful primary as a historic first in the state’s 50-year history, noting that it marked the first time an outgoing governor had openly and transparently unveiled a successor ahead of an election in a completely rancor-free manner.
