The platform is the APC; the message is simply that he wants to “serve.”
The move carries weight because of his name.
They speak of legacy, but also of renewal. A younger figure, they argue, can carry familiar values into a new political cycle.
Yet sharp criticism has flooded X on Sunday. X user @Waspapping_ posted: “At least tomorrow, when Seyi Tinubu decides to contest for office, there will be many people across the SouthWest who can testify to the jobs & opportunities he got for them. But what can be said about @YusufMBuhari in the NorthWest during the 8years his father led this country?”
Another X user @A__Sadik wrote: “Sarki, Exactly the opportunism we warned about. A man who has barely spent one full year in Daura since birth, transferred his voter card to Katsina less than a year ago allegedly, now wants to ‘represent’ Daura, Sandamu & Mai’adua. He can’t name ten wards without help. No one he mentored or empowered only his father’s name.
“While Seyi dishes out machines in the South-West, Yusuf gave the North-West 8 years of silence and disconnection. This is not leadership. It’s dynasty entitlement. Northern politicians must stop treating us (talakawa) as inheritance.”
@Al_mustarpha added: “I believe the people he’s planning to represent are not foolish. If they find him worthy of their vote, good, otherwise they act accordingly. My concern is how someone who spent most of his life in Abuja will be able to discharge his responsibility effectively to his subject.”
“His early steps show planning. He has begun consultations with party leaders and paid visits to key figures in the state. Some local stakeholders have already signalled support. These gestures matter in a system where alliances often shape outcomes before voters are involved.
“Yusuf built his public image on privacy. During his father’s presidency, he rarely spoke or appeared in political spaces. That quiet past now contrasts with the demands of an election campaign because voters will expect visibility, positions, and engagement.”
