President Bola Tinubu has formally inaugurated Dr. Muttaqha Darma as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The ceremony, held on Friday afternoon at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, concluded just before 4 p.m. in the President’s Conference Room.
Dr. Darma, the former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), joins the cabinet following a successful Senate screening on Thursday.
His appointment was finalized after Senate President Godswill Akpabio presented the official nomination from the Presidency to the upper chamber.
Speaking during the screening, Darma pledged full cooperation with the National Assembly to confront Nigeria’s acute housing shortage, stressing that more than 100 million citizens still lack adequate shelter.
He outlined a clear agenda focused on stronger leadership in the sector, wider access to affordable housing, and the reinforcement of key institutions.
Persecondnews recalls that Darma replaces Ahmed Dangiwa, whose departure followed a minor Federal Executive Council reshuffle announced by the Presidency on Tuesday.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation Sen. George Akume explained that the changes were intended to deepen cohesion in governance and accelerate economic delivery under the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
In line with directives from the SGF’s office, Dangiwa had already completed the formal handover of the ministry on Thursday, ensuring a smooth transition.
