Troops of Operation MESA have apprehended a suspect allegedly found in possession of explosives in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The arrest was triggered by intelligence reports indicating that a civilian was moving through the Agric area with suspected hand grenades during an event on Saturday evening.
Acting on the lead, troops were deployed to the scene at approximately 7:45 p.m. on March 21.
Following a swift tactical operation, the suspect was arrested without incident, and the suspected explosive devices were recovered.
Security expert and counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
Sources indicate that the suspect, an Osun State native residing in Ikorodu, was allegedly found in possession of 36 hand grenades.
While he remains in custody, the recovered items are undergoing expert verification as the investigation continues.
Following the arrest, security officials briefed event organizers and attendees, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and the importance of reporting suspicious activity.
Both the suspect and the seized materials have been transferred to military authorities for further interrogation and forensic analysis.
