The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Moroccan referee Jalal Jiyed to handle the third-place playoff match between Egypt and Nigeria in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Jiyed, who has already overseen two matches in the tournament, including the Uganda-Tanzania and Mozambique-Cameroon games, will be assisted by Algerian official Lahlu Benbraham on VAR duties.
The match, scheduled for Saturday at 6pm CAT, will see Egypt and Nigeria battling for a podium finish at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Both teams suffered heartbreaking semi-final defeats, with Nigeria losing to hosts Morocco on penalties and Egypt falling to Senegal 1-0.
Sources close to Eagles camp said Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Chelle, is determined to finish the competition on a high note, while Egypt’s boss Hossam Hassan is also aiming for victory.
Persecondnews reports that this will be the Super Eagles ninth appearance in the third-place playoffs, having won all eight previous bronze medal games.
