President Bola Tinubu has called for national unity and religious harmony in his 2025 Christmas address.
While congratulating the Christian community, he highlighted the season as a time to reflect on the core values of peace and hope.
The President remarked that the message of Christmas is particularly poignant given Nigeria’s current landscape, urging citizens to look beyond the festivities.
He reiterated his administration’s pledge to safeguard religious freedoms and ensure the safety of every Nigerian, regardless of their creed.
“On this Holy Day, I wish all Christians in Nigeria and around the world a Merry Christmas. I thank God for the opportunity to serve as the leader of our great country, and I pray for peace in our land, especially among individuals of differing religious beliefs.
“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence.
“As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let us also reflect on the many contributions that Christians in Nigeria, as followers of Christ, have made and continue to make toward the progress of our country,” Tinubu said.
The President highlighted how the message of the Gospel has inspired many Nigerians to engage in selfless service, noting that their contributions to humanity deserve national recognition.
He reaffirmed that his administration remains dedicated to security and stability, emphasizing that every citizen deserves the right to live, worship, and pursue their goals with dignity.
President Tinubu further asserted that no Nigerian should face violence or discrimination based on their faith or ethnicity, describing love for God and humanity as universal values.
To support this, he revealed that he has maintained consistent dialogue with leaders of the country’s two major religions throughout the year to address insecurity and intolerance.
He pledged to deepen these partnerships to prevent conflict and foster harmony.
As the holiday travel season peaks, the President appealed to motorists to maintain discipline and patience on the highways, offering his best wishes for safe journeys to all travelers.
He said: “With confidence in divine providence and our collective strength, we will continue the work of building a greater Nigeria, one that future generations will be proud of.
“I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance.”
