Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, the officer in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID) in Ebonyi, has passed away while on duty.

The senior officer collapsed during a management meeting at the State Police Command Headquarters in Abakaliki at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18.

Witnesses reported that ACP Popoola began struggling for breath during the session in the Commissioner of Police’s office.

Though he was immediately rushed to the nearby Police Medical Centre for emergency treatment, he tragically could not be saved.

Despite intensive resuscitation efforts, medical personnel eventually confirmed his passing.

Preliminary findings suggest the cause of death was cardiac arrest, stemming from hypertensive heart disease.

The late officer’s remains have been moved to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA 1) mortuary in Abakaliki.

Confirming the loss, Ebonyi State Police spokesman Joshua Ukandu paid tribute to the late ACP, describing him as a dedicated professional who served the Force with unwavering commitment.

He said: “Yes, one of them had a crisis during a meeting and was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he did not survive. He was not sick before the incident. If he were sick, he would not have attended the meeting.”

Ukandu conveyed the condolences of the Police Commissioner and the entire Police Command in the state to the late Police Officer’s family.
