Group B of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is shaping up to be an exciting competition, featuring Egypt, South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.

Egypt, the most decorated team in AFCON history, is looking to end its 15-year title drought, while South Africa is aiming to build on its third-place finish in the previous tournament.

The Pharaoh’s, with its rich football history, is the favourite to win the group, with talented stars like Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, and Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” the Egyptians were unbeaten in their World Cup Qualifiers Campaign in 10 games with (8 Wins, 2 Draws) scoring 20 goals and conceding just two.

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana has undergone a significant rebuilding process under the leadership of Hugo Broos, who has emphasized a focus on youth development.

“I’m looking a little to the future with this selection,” Broos said.

“We have to do at least the same as we did at the last Cup of Nations, which is reaching the semi-finals.”

The South African squad includes two uncapped 20-year-olds, Shandre Campbell of Club Brugge and Tylon Smith of Queens Park Rangers, as part of Broos’ long-term plan.

The team boasts talented players like Ronwen Williams, Teboho Mokoena, and Relebohile Mofokeng, who will be crucial in their quest for success.

Coach Hugo Broos has blended experience with youthful energy, retaining nine players from the bronze-winning team at the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

Angola, on the other hand, has impressed with its unbeaten qualifying campaign, topping a group that included Ghana, Sudan, and Niger.

The team, led by Patrice Beaumelle, has a balanced squad with experienced players like Crisan Mabulo and Bastos, who will be key to their chances.

Zimbabwe, despite its lack of success in AFCON, has regional success in the COSAFA Cup, having won the tournament six times.

The team, however, has struggled in AFCON, finishing bottom in all five of its previous appearances.

Group B Fixture:

– Egypt vs Zimbabwe (December 22)
– South Africa vs Angola (December 22)
– Egypt vs South Africa (December 26)
– Angola vs Zimbabwe (December 26)

Group B Prediction:

1. Egypt
2. South Africa
3. Angola
4. Zimbabwe
