Gunmen, believed to be bandits, reportedly abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammed Samaila Bagudo, on Friday.

The abduction occurred shortly after he had observed prayers at the mosque, Persecondnews reports.

Kebbi Police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, stating that armed bandits stormed Bagudo town on Friday night.

Using sophisticated weapons, they seized the deputy speaker at gunpoint and took him to an unknown location.

In immediate response, the Kebbi Police Commissioner, Bello Sani, established a dedicated search and rescue team.

This team comprises personnel from the Police, Army, and local vigilantes and has been tasked with promptly securing the Deputy Speaker’s release from the kidnappers.

‘In view of the unfortunate incident, we have formed a strong rescue team and they are already combing bushes and forest to rescue him unhurt,” he said.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, saying ” we are on top of the situation.”

The CP assured the people of police unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
