Outrage and condemnation have continued to trail the lynching of a woman, Amaye, in Kasuwan-Garba town, Niger State for allegedly blaspheming Islam and Holy Prophet Muhammad.

Persecondnews reports that on Saturday, August 30, a mob had overpowered security personnel and set the food vendor on fire.

The attack was reportedly in response to Amaye’s alleged blasphemous remarks about Prophet Muhammad during an argument with a customer.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has since condemned the killing.

In a statement on Monday, September 1, the group’s founder and executive director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, described the attack as “extrajudicial, barbaric, and un-Islamic” and called for immediate police intervention.

“MURIC condemns this killing in the strongest terms. It is Bohemian, extrajudicial, barbaric and unIslamic,” Prof. Akintola said.

“The killers must be brought to book. We charge the Niger State Police Command to immediately set the machinery in motion to arrest, detain, and prosecute the culprits. There will be no respect for the rule of law if mob killing goes unpunished.”

The rights group called on the police to act swiftly to ensure that those responsible face prosecution and to deter future incidents of mob violence.

Persecondnews recalls that on June 2, 2016, a horrific incident occurred in broad daylight in downtown Kano, as a mob accused Mrs. Agbahime, a 74-year-old woman, of blaspheming against Islam and brutally murdered her in a heinous act of vigilantism.

Also on May 12, 2022, a tragic incident occurred in Sokoto, Nigeria, where a mob of Muslim students brutally stoned to death Deborah Samuel Yakubu, a second-year Christian college student, after falsely accusing her of blasphemy against Islam.
