Davido’s Tinubu Visit Ignites Gov. Adeleke Defection Rumours

1.1k

Afrobeats superstar Davido (David Adeleke) recently made a surprise visit to President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock.

This visit comes amidst growing speculation that Davido’s uncle, Osun Gov. Ademola Adeleke, might switch from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Videos and photos circulating on social media show the Grammy-nominated artist arriving at the Presidential Villa with associates like Ubi Franklin and Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, where they were greeted by President Tinubu.

While the exact reason for Davido’s visit wasn’t disclosed, its timing is notable. Reports have been gaining traction about Governor Adeleke’s alleged attempts to leave the PDP for the ruling APC, especially after several high-profile defections to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Recently, Delta Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa (who was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election), both defected from the PDP to the APC along with commissioners and the party’s structure.

Additionally, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno recently confirmed his impending defection to the APC, even instructing his commissioners and political appointees to follow suit or resign.

Davido’s visit has sparked mixed reactions online with many netizens criticizing his decision to meet President Tinubu, especially since he recently advised African-Americans against visiting Nigeria in a US interview, citing the president’s “bad” economic policies.
