The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, made his debut appearance at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
Ibas was appointed Administrator by President Bola Tinubu following the suspension of Gov. Siminalayi Fubara in March 2025.
The NEC meeting, presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, drew a large attendance of governors and deputy governors from across the 36 states of the federation.
Notable attendees include Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, who defected on Wednesday to the All Progressives Congress, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak of Kwara State, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, and Bassey Otu of Cross River State.
The National Economic Council (NEC) was established by the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended; Section 153(1) and Paragraphs 18 & 19 of Part I of the Third Schedule.
Membership of the NEC comprises the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other co-opted government officials.
The NEC meeting provides a platform for state governors and administrators to discuss economic issues affecting the country and find solutions to promote national development.
With Ibas’ debut appearance, the meeting is expected to be a significant one, especially given the current economic challenges facing the nation.
