Eid-el-Fitr: Kano Police Command bans Durbar ceremonies

711

In a bid to ensure peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the Kano State Police Command has taken proactive measures by banning all Sallah Durbar ceremonies across the state.

This decision was made to prevent potential chaos and unrest, following credible intelligence reports indicating that miscreants planned to disrupt the festivities.

Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced the ban at a news conference held at the Bompai Police headquarters, saying intelligence reports revealed that certain groups planned to disrupt the Durbar festivities and create instability, prompting the police command to prohibit the event after consulting with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders.

He said: “In pursuit of a safe and secure celebration, and to maintain peace and public order, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has assessed the rising tensions and uncertainties surrounding the Durbar activities.

“Following credible intelligence reports about plans to use the Durbar as a proxy for unrest, a ban has been placed on all Durbar activities throughout the state during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations.”

Bakori advised worshippers to perform their Eid prayers only at designated praying grounds and to follow security guidelines, which include refraining from carrying suspicious objects, avoiding horse riding, car racing, and reckless driving, and ensuring parents and guardians caution their children against engaging in disruptive activities.

The general public is urged to refrain from engaging in any activities that could potentially compromise public peace or disrupt law and order, he said.

He assured residents that adequate security personnel would be deployed to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration.

He said: “As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us prioritize peace above all else, set aside our differences, and unite as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation.”

“To ensure public safety, residents are urged to report any suspicious activities directly to the police using the emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

“Alternatively, they can utilize the NPF Rescue Me application for a quick and easy way to alert authorities. The Command reaffirms its dedication to upholding law and order, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring a peaceful Sallah celebration.”

Persecondnews recalls that police had in 2024 banned Eid-el-Kabir Durbar celebrations for security reasons.

The then Kano State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, said on June 13, 2024, that the ban was necessary to maintain peace and prevent violence between rival factions in the Kano Emirate.

The state has been on high security alert since Gov. Abba Yusuf in May 2024 reinstated Lamido Sanusi, who was deposed in 2020, as the 16th Emir of Kano, following the deposition of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero.
