Nearly 17 months after the death of 27-year-old singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as MohBad, a Lagos court has acquitted musician Naira Marley, whose real name is Abdulazeez Fashola, of any involvement in the young artist’s death.
Following legal advice from the Lagos Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje of the Sabo Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, Lagos, ruled on Tuesday that Naira Marley had no case to answer.
In addition to Naira Marley, the court also reportedly cleared music promoter, Samson Balogun, known as Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, also called Primeboy; and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.
However, the DPP said the state would be prosecuting the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq for the offence of reckless and negligent acts contrary to Section 251(e) of the Criminal Law, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Persecondnews recalls that MohBad died on September 12, 2023, under suspicious circumstances.
Prior to his death, MohBad had alleged that Naira Marley, his former record label boss, had assaulted and threatened his life.
The controversy surrounding MohBad’s death led to widespread protests in Nigeria, with fans demanding justice.
The Lagos State Police Command arrested Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, and others in connection with the death.
