Following a backlash, the Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified that its operatives stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday on invitation.

The DSS said the Acting Clerk of the House invited them, adding that its officers were only there to maintain order.

Persecondnews reported earlier that the heavy presence of security men at the complex on Monday morning had received wide condemnations with some insinuating that the Presidency might be supporting the reinstatement of ex-Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

A statement issued on Monday by the Nigeria’s secret police, said that they were invited in a letter signed by he Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. A.T.B. Ottun, dated February 14, 2025 and addressed to the Lagos State Director of the DSS.

The DSS said the letter indicated that there were plans to forcefully reinstate Obasa on February 18, 2025, and this could lead to a security risk.

The DSS attached the a letter by the clerk sighted by Persecondnews to its statement.

The letter reads:“The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly plans to resume office on the 18th of February, 2025, posing a potential security threat to the Assembly and its members. In light of this situation, we kindly request that you take necessary measures to fortify the security of the Assembly premises with effect from Sunday, 16th February, 2025, by increasing the presence of your men and observing strict access control within and outside the Assembly premises till further notice.”
