China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, Meets with Tinubu in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu welcomed China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday in continuation of Yi’s two-day working tour of Nigeria.

It is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

Persecondnews reports that the visit is expected to focus on key areas of collaboration, including the economy, politics, and the oil and gas sectors.

During the meeting, President Tinubu and Wang Yi will review the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in China.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Wang Yi are expected to address a joint press briefing following the discussions.

Dignitaries present at the meeting included Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Minister of Information, Mr. Idris Mohammed.

According to Tuggar, Nigeria and China share a long-standing diplomatic relationship built on mutual respect and Yi’s diplomatic visit aims to consolidate the foundation of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.

Tuggar also revealed that their discussion centered on trade, capacity building, and people-to-people-oriented exchanges.
