Barcelona returned to winning ways in La Liga with a dominant 5-1 victory over Mallorca on Tuesday, ending a four-match winless streak.
The victory sees the Catalans climb to 37 points, extending their lead at the top of the table to four points over Real Madrid, who have two games in hand.
The match saw standout performances from Brazilian winger Raphinha and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who both played pivotal roles in a scintillating second half.
Ferran Torres opened the scoring in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error by Mallorca’s Johan Mojica.
The hosts levelled the game before halftime through Vedat Muriqi, who finished off a well-executed move following a precise assist from Pablo Maffeo.
Barcelona’s dominance became apparent after the break, with Raphinha converting a penalty in the 56th minute, earned by the lightning-fast Yamal.
The 17-year-old, returning from an ankle injury, dazzled with his creativity and pace, showcasing his importance to the team after recent struggles in his absence.
Raphinha doubled his tally in the 76th minute, finishing off a stunning outside-of-the-foot cross from Yamal. The duo continued to wreak havoc, setting up Pau Victor for a chance that led to Frenkie de Jong scoring Barcelona’s fourth.
De Jong then turned provider, assisting Victor for the fifth and final goal in the closing stages.
Despite a dominant display, Yamal missed a chance to add his name to the scoresheet, with Mallorca’s goalkeeper Leo Roman producing a fine save late on.
The win provides a morale boost for Barcelona, who had dropped points in their previous two league games and suffered a shock loss to Las Palmas.
Meanwhile, Mallorca remain sixth in La Liga, two points behind Athletic Bilbao in the race for the final Champions League spot.
Real Madrid will have the opportunity to reduce Barcelona’s lead to one point when they face Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
