A 70-year-old man, Mr. Stephen Irobunda, has escaped a mob action in Ohokobe Ndume in the Umuahia North council area of Abia State for allegedly shooting fatally a young man, Bright Odizuru.

The suspect shot and killed the victim, Odizuru, on Saturday during an altercation between him and some youths in the community.

The deceased and some youths were playing football near Irobunda’s house during the local government election, which infuriated the suspect.

According to Persecondnews, the man fired into the air to scare the youths away.

In response, the youths went back to Irobunda’s house to find out why he was trying to intimidate them with gunshots.

At that point, the man brought out his gun again and shot one of the youths, Bright Odizuru, in the abdomen, leading to his death on arrival in the hospital.

The young man’s death infuriated the Ohokobe Mbaocha youths, who pounced on the suspect and attempted to lynch him before security agents rescued him.

The youths attempted to ignite his house, but the security agents managed to calm them down.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said:“Police have such reports; a crime scene has been visited, and an investigation is ongoing at SCID.”
