Tragedy struck as the campaign convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September 21 Edo governorship poll, Senator Monday Okpebholo, rammed into a Toyota Camry car, crushing five of the occupants.
The accident happened on the Warrake Road near the Uzebba axis in the Owan West Local Government Area of the state on Thursday evening, according to reports.
The car’s driver, Emmanuel Edionwe, and four other occupants died instantly, while another victim was rushed to the Irrua Specialist Hospital in critical condition.
According to a source who witnessed the accident, the campaign convoy was traveling at an incredible speed when one of the vehicles veered off the road and rammed into the Toyota Camry while attempting to negotiate a bend.
The occupants of the car were said to be returning from a funeral ceremony when they met their deaths.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Edo State University, Uzaurie Mortuary in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) evacuated the bodies from the accident scene.
