Nigerian comedian Dami Olakunle, popularly known as Aphrican Ace, is grieving the loss of his pre-term baby, who was born prematurely and passed away shortly after birth.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Olakunle shared the harrowing details of his son’s brief life and the profound sorrow his family is enduring.
Olakunle revealed that his son, Zion Ayomikun Blue Olatunde, was due in October but arrived early, at just 26 weeks, on July 2nd.

Despite his early arrival, Zion initially showed promising signs of survival. The family had even proceeded with a baby shower on July 27, believing in the infant’s resilience.

However, the situation took a tragic turn on July 28th when the family received devastating news that Zion had contracted a bacterial infection.

The infection led to a series of rapid and severe complications. Despite the doctors’ best efforts and the family’s unwavering hope, Zion passed away in the early hours of August 1 with his parents by his side.

In his emotional post, Olakunle expressed the intense pain of transitioning from planning to bring their baby home to arranging for funeral services.

He wrote, “I’ve never experienced this kind of pain before, but it’s crazy how, despite the amount of pain you’re in, life still has to go on… literally right after. How quickly we went from plans of you coming home to now talking to funeral homes. Hey God.”

He continued reflecting on his son’s brief life and their loss: “We love you and miss you so much, Zion, but God’s will has been done so that we won’t question Him. We’ll accept it, knowing and believing that He has greater things in store for us.

“All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. Till we meet again, rest peacefully, our dear son.”

The couple has received an outpouring of support from the Nigerian entertainment community.

Nollywood stars Rita Dominic and Omoni Oboli, among others, have expressed their condolences and offered words of comfort.

Rita Dominic wrote, “So sorry. Please accept my condolences,” while Omoni Oboli shared, “May He comfort you how only He can. You are in our prayers.”

Mary Akpobome and Teddy A also extended their sympathies, with Akpobome praying for comfort and strength and Teddy A offering his deepest condolences.

Allwell Ademola simply stated, “It is well, bro.”
