Senate blames intelligence failure for Borno suicide bombings

1.2k

The Senate has blamed the recent suicide bombings in Gwoza, Borno State, on the failure of intelligence gathering by security forces.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio made this assertion while contributing to a debate on a motion sponsored by Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip, during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Persecondnews reports that Ndume had identified three key locations—the Mandara Mountains, Sambisa Forest, and the Lake Chad region—as the remaining safe havens for terrorists, emphasizing the need to focus efforts on these areas to combat terrorism.

Consequently, the Senate passed a resolution calling on the executive arm of the federal government to instruct the military to revamp its approach to combating insurgency and crime by incorporating modern technology and innovative strategies.

The lawmakers noted that traditional methods, such as deploying troops, have proven insufficient as terrorists persist in using unconventional tactics to harm Nigerians and destroy their livelihoods.
